River Business and Leadership Academy
WHAT IS IT?
The River Business and Leadership Academy is an initiative started by the River Group and is aimed at equipping Christian men and women who are in business or in leadership positions in industry or, indeed, Christian ministry. The two main individuals who teach in the Academy are Pastor Andre Roebert (CEO of the River Group) and Greg Clur (CFO of the River Group).
The operating mechanisms of a world economic system and the Kingdom of God are essentially in opposition to each other. The powerful magnetic lure of materialism can only effectively be combatted through a solid Kingdom focus. The River Business and Leadership Academy is aimed at equipping Christian men and woman to succeed spiritually and economically in their respective organisational initiatives, whether business or otherwise, as they seek to fulfill the will if God in their lives.
WHAT SUBJECTS DO WE HANDLE?
The River Business and Leadership Academy is currently not a course as such, but rather, an initiative focussed at holding seminars to achieve our aims. In essence, some of the subjects which we deal with are:-
• God's economic system versus the world economic system.
• Visionary leadership.
• Basic management principles.
• Tithing from your personal and business finances
• Debt in your personal and business finances
• Lifting the lid in your business.
• Essential components of a Kingdom business.
• Consideration of types of trading entities.
• Considerations in structuring your business.
• Understanding your financial statements.
• Managing essential components of your business. This includes consideration of management aspects relating to tangible operating assets such as equipment, furniture and land and buildings, inventory, trade and other receivables (debtors), trade and other payables (creditors), taxation liabilities, shareholder and owner loan accounts, share investments and the essential difference between profit, losses and cash flow. This is not an exhaustive list but provides a fair indication of the subjects incorporated into presentations.
• Taxation considerations relating to your business.
• Buying and selling a business.
• How to make God a partner in your business.
This is an internally developed seminar series which is based on the Word of God, sound commercial practice and also consists of the recorded experiences of the presenters in the development of the River Group. It therefore incorporates a focused study of practical business realities, challenges and principles. It is designed for people in business and seeks to provide practical assistance and instruction.
SEMINARS
Seminars generally provide the ideal opportunity to interact with fellow Christians in business and teach reasonably comprehensively on doing business with a Kingdom focus. This is how the River Business and Leadership Academy operates. We therefore welcome invitations from organised business, churches, interest groups or the like to invite us to hold a seminar in your area. We are prepared to hold seminar events both locally in South Africa, in neighbouring states and further abroad. Essentially, we attempt to maintain an international focus where necessary.
THE PRESENTERS
The two primary presenters are Pastor Andre Roebert and Mr Greg Clur.
Pastor Andre Roebert is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the River Group. He is also the Senior Pastor of the River Church in East London. Pastor Andre has been in ministry and business for many years now and under his visionary leadership the River Group has grown to some 44 legal entities incorporating 7 major and diverse operating divisions which include Ministry, Corporate Services and Administration, Broadcasting, Media, Education, Leisure and Tourism and Business.
Mr Greg Clur is the Chief Financial Officer of the River Group and is a B Com graduate from Rhodes University in Grahamstown. He is also a Chartered Accountant who practiced as a public accounting in his own firm for 13 years before joining the River Group in 2003.
COST
Generally, we do not charge for our seminars. We prefer to negotiate and arrange the financial details of each seminar on an event by event basis as we have found that circumstances are generally unique every time. We are happy to cover our traveling costs ourselves. We require that, as an invitee, you will arrange and cover the costs of the venue, our accommodation, catering and associated incidentals. Offerings taken at these seminars would be designed to cover your costs of holding the event and our traveling costs. We would accept an honorarium should you wish to do so but have no expectation in this regard.
